A Goole woman is concerned about shoppers at Tesco after receiving a warning from the company about all-day parking in the shop's car park.

Elizabeth Southern, from Barlby, received the letter from the supermarket threatening a fine if the action was repeated.

She maintains, however, that on the morning of the day in question, she was doing the school run to Barlby High School, returning to Goole at 1pm to sign the four-year-old girl she looks after into playgroup - all part of her job as private nanny in Airmyn.

It is thought the mistake occurred because of the camera system used at the car park to register the duration of stay of the vehicles.

Cameras (pictured right) stationed at both entrances take a picture of all cars that enter and leave the car park to register the length of their stay. It is understood that Mrs Southern used the car park in both the morning and the afternoon, leading to the mistake.

Numerous yellow signs in the car park warn users that because of a lack of parking, if they stay for longer than three hours they risk incurring a £70 parking fine.

However, a spokesman for Tesco said: "The technology we use is 99.9 per cent accurate but, as with all technology, there are mistakes. We apologise if there has been a mistake and would suggest that the lady in question contact customer services to clear the matter up.

"The system is not in place to penalise shoppers who are genuinely using the car park but we are trying to stop those who use the facilities with no intention of using the shop."
