A special meeting of the Snaith and Cowick Town Council was held on Monday to allocate grants and funding to local groups.

Snaith Junior Football Club, which now has 148 girls and boys featuring in its nine teams, was awarded a £500 grant; the Boothferry Citizens' Advice Bureau, which operates a fortnightly service at the Marshes as well as welcoming visitors from Snaith in the Goole office wasawarded a £300 grant; and Friends of Snaith Priory Church were awarded a £400 grant to help towards fundraising for a disabled toilet and plumbing needs.

Grasshoppers Pre-School, which takes children from the age of three years, was awarded £200, as was the Snaith and Cowick Drama Group.

Funding of £2,000 was granted to the Snaith Community Playing Fields Association for 2006-7, with the group planning to deliver flyers to town residents asking for their support and ideas for the playing field. Funding for 2007-8 was agreed for the Snaith and Cowick Holiday Playscheme, to the tune of £1,500, to help cover staff and hall hire costs. Snaith and District Community Sports Hall was offered funding of £6,000, plus an additional £1,000 depending on matching a possible grant from East Riding of Yorkshire Council. This offer has been made in the hope of encouraging ERYC to fully fund the facilities, as it does with 12 other leisure centres in the area, including at Goole and Pocklington.
