Mother and baby still in hospital

A 43-year-old woman who was recently killed in a road accident on the A161 has been named by police.

Mandy Lynne Stephenson, from Sheffield, was killed instantly when the Citroen AX she was passenger in collided head-on with a Suzuki GSX 750 motorbike on Saturday, August 23.

As reported previously in the Goole Times the accident happened at around 2.53pm on the A161 between Crowle and Belton.

Also seriously injured in the accident were 20-month-old Jasmine Abbott and her mother Anita Abbott, both from Sheffield, who were on their way to Scunthorpe to collect a new puppy.

Jasmine, who was a backseat passenger in the car, is still receiving treatment at Sheffield Children's Hospital after suffering multiple injuries in the crash including a fractured skull and brain damage.

Anita (29), who was also travelling in the back of the Citroen, is being treated in the intensive care unit at Sheffield's Northern General Hospital after suffering a fractured pelvis, dislocated leg and internal injuries in the accident.

Both mother and daughter are said to be poorly but in a stable condition.

A Scunthorpe man (47), who was riding the motorcycle, is still receiving treatment for his injuries at Hull Royal Infirmary but his condition is described as stable.

The driver of the car, believed to be Mrs Stephenson's husband, suffered a fractured finger in the crash and was not detained in hospital.

Humberside Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the crash to call 0845 60 60 222 quoting log number 477 of August 23.
