Drug stash uncovered by police
Police caught a man with crack cocaine and a heroin substitute after he was stopped-and-searched in the street.
Rustam Javadov (46) came clean straight away after being stopped in Aire Street in Goole.
The arresting officers found three wraps of crack cocaine and two white tablets which turned put to be subutex, a heroIn subsititute.
On Tuesday Mr Javadov appeared at Goole Magistrates' Court, where he admitted two counts of possessing a Class A drug and a charge of failing to surrender to custody.
Julie Laverack-Glanville, prosecuting, said police found the white subutex tablets in Mr Javadov's jacket pocket while searching him on July 20 this year. They also found a quantity of crack cocaine wrapped in clingfilm in his jeans pocket.
Mr Javadov, who is unemployed, was arrested and taken to Beverley Police Station for questioning. In interview he told police he had bought the subutex for £5 and said he only took the tablets when he could not get hold of heroin. He added that he bought the crack for £10 a wrap.
Mr Javadov also admitted having had a heroin addiction for the past three years, adding that he used crack at weekends and for celebrations. He said he had been addicted to crack for three months.
Mrs Laverack-Glanville said Mr Javadov, who was living on Third Avenue in Goole at the time of the offences, had been bailed on July 20 but failed to show up at Beverley Police Station, as instructed, on August 1.
As a result he was arrested again on August 13 and told police: "I forgot [about answering bail]; I've been wrong. I'm sorry."
Nick Clay, defending, said Mr Javadov - who was fined by town magistrates for possessing Class A drugs in March this year - had since moved from Goole to Sheffield in an attempt to extricate himself from the local drugs scene.
"He has had problems with heroin and Class A drugs for some time," said Mr Clay. "He says he's too old to be involved in such behaviour (and) he finds himself in an embarrassing position."
Mr Clay said Mr Javadov, who came to Britain from his native Chechnya about 10 years ago, was taking subutex as a way of weaning himself off heroin.
Magistrates adjourned sentencing until September 16 to give the Probation Service time to compile a standard-delivery report on Mr Javadov's drug-taking. He was released on unconditional bail until that date.
