Lifestyle team The Fantastic Three have been awarded funds from the Environment Agency to create a wildlife haven at Adlingfleet Common in Marshland.

To celebrate 20 years of the Lifestyle project, run by the Humberside Police, the Environment Agency asked Lifestylers to take part in a 'GreenScene' challenge, where they had to 'think big and think green' to create a green crusader project.

As an incentive to get the projects, which ranged from a wildlife haven to improving recycling facilities in local communities, under way the Environment Agency offered a financial contribution towards successful applicants.

The Environment Agency was so impressed by The Fantastic Three - who are Euan Jackson (10), Henri Plumb (11) and James Woodcock(11), and their green designs for a wildlife haven, complete with bat and kestrel boxes - that they granted funding for planting and gardening equipment so the team could see through their green idea.

Phil Young, of the Environment Agency, commented: "Anything that gives young people a purpose and enables them to contribute positively to their environment can only be a good thing. Lifestyle is an amazing project that helps young people realise their potential and fill their time with constructive activities for the benefit of others.

"We are delighted to be supporting the 'GreenScene' award again this year and as it is such an important milestone for the Lifestyle project we wanted to help establish a lasting environmental project.

"Past winners have included 'Eco-logical', who planted almost 1,500 trees in Wragby Woods in Lincoln and 'Deno's Boys', who created a wildlife haven at Dean Wood, Cottingham. We are offering funding to support other major projects that have a lasting Lifestyle legacy and will be an asset to their local communities for years to come."

The 'GreenScene' projects were judged on what would give the best overall benefit for the community and what can be used for years to come. The overall winners of the challenge will be announced later this year and will receive a unique trophy, certificate and a mountain bike for each member of the team.

Tracy Milnes from the Lifestyle Team added: "Building upon the success of the 'GreenScene Award in previous years, it is great to work alongside the Environment Agency again as part of Lifestyle's 20th Anniversary Celebrations. Young people are really passionate about the environment and are great ambassadors about the importance of green issues. The GreenScene challenge, empowers Lifestylers to make a great impact to their local communities by thinking green and making a long term difference."

Over the last 20 years the Humberside Police Lifestyle project, which challenges young people to carry out projects to benefit their community, has attracted over 135,00 participants who have worked more than two million hours to improve the quality of life in the area they live in.
