Last weekend's Goole Rockfest was a massive success, managing to raise more than £740 for the Goole Gift Campaign For Heroes.

Thanks to excellent organisation from the Fake Festivals company, the town's first rock festival went without a hitch, with lots of local people attending to see some amazing performances from some of the UK's best tribute acts, along with some talented local bands.

Campaign founder Darren Smith said of the day: "Even though the date coincided with the Old Goole Gala, which was unfortunately unavoidable, there was a great turnout from the people of Goole.

"I think all present would agree it was a great day out for all the family, with some amazing sets, especially those form some of the young local groups One group in particular springs to minds, 'Vintage Watts', who were exceptional as the first band on. They set a really high benchmark for every other group to follow.

"We would particularly like to thanks Jez from Fake Festivals and his security team, who enabled us to keep our promise to the people living around the park, in so much as there was no trouble whatsoever, it was so well organised. And, of course, we would like also to thank all those who attended for respecting the neighbouring people."

The Rockfest was organised to raise funds for the campaign, which helps British troops who are currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and organisers are delighted with the amount which was raised and thank everyone who donated or bought a raffle ticket.

Co-founder Kerry Smith said: "To raise that amount of money for the troops is amazing. It will enable us to send at least another 100 - 150 welfare boxes out to the troops on the front lines in both Iraq and Afghanistan. At one point a look-a-like of Roy 'Chubby' Brown took our collecting bucket around and I have never seen so much money donated so fast."

The campaign would also like to publicly thank the members of Goole Town Council for agreeing to allow them to hold the festival.

The next event being held to raise funds and support for the troops is the Campaign for Heroes Dinner and Dance/Auction, with special guests including England Rugby hero Jamie Noon, as well as members of both the Coldstream Guards and the Parachute Regiment.

Tickets for the event, which will be held at the Vikings Hotel on August 29, are available until tomorrow, Friday August 22, so book now before it is to late by contacting Darren or Kerry on 01405 704893.
