Award honour for slimmer
Local man Ron Edenbrow can look forward to a brighter future after shedding two stones in just 18 weeks to be voted his Slimming World group's Man of the Year 2008.
Ron, who works as a telecoms supervisor for Skanska Utilities, admits that he has been overweight on and off for years, and says that even as a child he was quite plump. Over the years he has tried to lose weight on his own by cutting down on portion sizes, but has always found that the most successful way to lose weight has been with Slimming World.
Exercise has also played an important part in Ron's weight loss. He said: "I admit that I was a couch potato before I joined Slimming World. My blood pressure was high and I was on the borderline to becoming diabetic but now I've started to do much more exercise - I go swimming three times a week and enjoy walking a lot more and my health has improved significantly. You don't have to join a gym to increase your activity levels - just walking or even housework or gardening help."
Whilst on holiday in Greece, Ron realised how being overweight could have been dangerous: "I was sitting on one of those plastic patio chairs just minding my own business when it suddenly collapsed under me!
"I could have been badly hurt but I'm pleased to say there were no serious injuries, although my pride was badly dented! I put it down to the weather being too hot which had resulted in the chair legs melting, although I know in reality it was my weight that had caused it."
