The Goole and Howdenshire Local Action Team (LAT) is to provide a stand at the Old Goole Gala on Sunday, August 17, where members of the community can engage with the team on issues that affect them and their neighbourhoods.

The LAT has been tasked with implementing new, inclusive and innovative ways of encouraging members of the community to become involved in looking at public service delivery in Goole and surrounding villages through different forms of community engagement.

The role of the LAT is to adopt a partnership approach to local problem solving and engaging with the public on key issues with the aim of improving the quality of life of individuals and communities in their localities.

It is envisaged that this new 'joined-up thinking and joined-up activity' approach that the LATs will provide will enhance the services delivered.

The LAT, working in partnership with the Advance Goole project, is showing the 3D 'Planning For Real' consultation model made by Marshlands Primary School children at the Gala to allow people to add their views of Old Goole and find out more about how they can get involved in 'Planning For Real' and community engagement.

The Local Action Team is made up of senior representatives from each of the following organisations: Humberside Police, Humberside Fire and Rescue, the Primary Care Trust, the Voluntary Sector through Humber and Wolds Rural Community Council, and East Riding Voluntary Action Services (ERVAS),which is the local development agency providing support to voluntary and community groups, together with a local independent community member and an officer from East Riding of Yorkshire Council. Howdenshire ERYC ward councillor Paul Robinson chairs the team.

Cllr Robinson said: "This is a very exciting challenge, something very new, and hopefully a mechanism where more decision-making can be brought down to the local level, enabling local residents to have more say in those issues that affect them directly."

To raise awareness of the LAT, the Goole and Howdenshire officer Tania Pells and Cllr Robinson recently presented Goole Town Council with a brief overview of the team's activities and purpose.

The aim was to enhance relationships with the local representatives and encourage two-way communication between East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Goole Town Council to enable joined up activity to benefit the people of Goole and surrounding areas.
