A milkman has been spared his driving licence after hitting another vehicle and failing to report the accident.

Nicky Christopher Holah (19), of Chiltern Road in Goole, appeared before the town's magistrates on Friday and pleaded guilty to two road traffic offences.

Nicola Troy, for the Crown Prosecution Service, told the court that in the early hours of May 11 Mr Holah's milk float hit a parked Land Rover on Chiltern Road before being driven off.

She said the owner of the Land Rover was informed by a neighbour at around 6.30am of the damage to his vehicle, which included dents to his driver's door and damage to the front tyre.

Ms Troy said he followed skid marks down the road to the parked milk float, which had damage consistent with the accident.

When asked why he did not report the accident Mr Holah, who passed his driving test in December 2007, said he thought the owner would be angry and to wake him up in the early hours would make him angrier.

Mr Holah was not working when the accident took place and was using the milk float, which was empty, for 'leisure purposes'.

He told the court: "I think I misjudged my position. I was inexperienced, my best assumption was to wait until the morning and sort it out."

Chairman of the bench Mrs Jenny Everitt told Mr Holah he had made a bad judgment, with unfortunate circumstances.

Magistrates fined Mr Holah £100 for failing to stop, £50 for driving without due care and attention, £43 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge and ordered his licence to be endorsed with five points.
