Youngsters praised for volunteering
Cadets and badgers in the St John Ambulance have been commended by local politicians for their work in the community.
Youngsters in the Snaith division were honoured for their volunteer work during a presentation ceremony attended by county councillors Gordon Megson and Caroline Fox, as well as prospective Goole MP Andrew Percy.
The three politicians handed out awards to cadets and badgers and praised adult volunteers in the Snaith division for giving up their time to work with young people.
Cllr Fox said: "We hear too many stories about the poor behaviour of young people and not enough about the positive contribution they play in the local community.
"The young people involved in the Snaith St John Ambulance are a real credit to the town and contribute positively to the local community."
Mr Percy said: "We really want to emphasise just how much groups such as the St John Ambulance rely on adult volunteers such as divisional officer Ann Barnett, who does a fantastic job for St John Ambulance locally.
"Ann explained to us that getting volunteers can be difficult and so we would like to urge anyone who is interested in volunteering for groups such as St John and the Scouts to please do so."
He added: "As a school teacher myself I know how much you can get out of working with young people and, likewise, how much young people can gain from being involved in local organisations."
The Snaith St John Ambulance is also looking to raise money for a defibrillator for use by the group and would like help in trying to raise funds to buy the equipment.
Anyone wishing to offer support to the group can contact Councillor Fox on: 01405 767330.
