Man attacked ex in street
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a man who attacked his ex-girlfriend in the street.
Gatis Vitolins (25) failed to turn up at Goole Magistrates' Court to face three counts of assault by beating and a criminal damage charge.
He was convicted in his absence following a trial.
The court heard that there were three separate attacks on Mr Vitolins' ex-partner.
Carl Codd, prosecuting, said the attacks happened after the break-up of the former couple's two-year relationship in January this year.
Mr Codd said the pair had been living together but the victim moved out and went to live with her sister.
The first attack happened on January 11, when Mr Vitolins - who denied the charges at a previous court appearance - walked up to the woman in the street near her home, and attacked her, said Mr Codd.
The attack happened at about 7.15am as the victim was walking to work on Carter Street.
During last week's court hearing the woman took to the witness box to give evidence against her ex-partner.
With the help of an interpreter, she told magistrates she became frightened as Mr Vitolins approached her because he had "a very angry face".
"I was very frightened and I ran away from him," she said. "My friend lives close to me and I ran to her home.
"Gatis started running behind me. I knocked at the door; Gatis approached me and he started to hit me. When my friend opened the door Gatis ran off."
The victim said the attack left her with bruises to her neck and legs.
On another occasion, Mr Vitolins attacked his former partner in a subway as she was walking to Goole town centre with her sister.
Mr Vitolins slapped his ex-partner as she tried to shield her face with her hands.
A third attack happened as the woman was again walking to work along Carter Street, this time with her sister.
The court heard that Mr Vitolins lying in wait, hiding behind a corner,.
The victim also told the court Mr Vitolins poured paint all over the hat she was wearing and it dripped down over her body.
She said that when her door was damaged, on January 11, she could see Mr Vitolins from a second-floor window, but did not see exactly what happened.
She added that the other attacks happened some time after January 11, but she could not remember exactly when.
The victim's sister said the woman had shown her some of her injuries following one of the attacks, including bruising to her hand and her legs.
She said that, during the attack in the subway, Mr Vitolins punched and slapped her sister.
The sister added that, during the second incident on Carter Street, Mr Vitolins poured paint over the victim and then ran away.
She told the court he had damaged the door at her house after trying to get in by turning a key. She said he again ran away when she approached him.
Mr Vitolins was arrested at his home on Edinburgh Street on April 23 following a complaint by the victim.
Magistrates found Mr Vitolins guilty in his absence and issued a warrant without bail for his arrest, so he could be sentenced.
