Local charity shops celebrates 50 years
Throughout August Sue Ryder Care is celebrating its shops' golden anniversary - 50 years as one of the leading charity retailers on the high street - and is encouraging people in Goole to join in the celebrations.
To celebrate Sue Ryder Care's golden milestone and thank local communities for their support over the years the Sue Ryder Care shop in Goole at 34 Pasture Road will be hosting a special golden anniversary party on Thursday, August 7. Staff and volunteers will be welcoming customers into the shop to join in the celebrations, wearing great golden outfits.
Amanda Sowden-Wells, shop manager, said: "I hope as many people as possible will join in the fun. On the day we are also offering 25 per cent discount on donated items to customers who will wear something yellow. Cake and soft drinks will be available along the day and we have also organised entertainment for adults and children including a tombola."
The Sue Ryder Care branch in Goole also acts as a recycling point for the community as old clothes that cannot be sold in the shop are recycled as rags. All money raised through recycling, as well as through the shop's sales, help the charity deliver expert and compassionate care to people living with complex conditions including cancer, multiple sclerosis, brain injury, Huntington's disease, dementia and stroke.
The shop will also be offering 'golden items' to buy, all donated by supporters of the charity. Each shopper who buys a 'golden item' will receive a small gift.
Amanda added: "Our golden anniversary celebrations is our way to say thank you to all the people who have supported us over the years. By supporting our shop - whether that is through donating and gift aiding unwanted items, shopping with us or volunteering - people can help us make a real difference to the lives of the thousands of people we care for each year. I hope as many people as possible join in with our golden celebrations and help us help more."
