A man ripped windscreen-wipers off a car in a drug-induced frenzy, a court heard.

Steven Paul Noon (24) had been spotted by CCTV controllers, who informed police.

When officers arrived they found Mr Noon standing next to the car, a Peugeot 406, and arrested him.

In police interview Mr Noon said he had "taken something" the night before and that he had been on 'sleepers' that were making him do "some crazy things".

Officers charged him with criminal damage, going equipped and possessing a bladed article.

This week Mr Noon, of Eastgate in Goole, admitted one count of criminal damage, another of going equipped, and also possessing a bladed article.

The incident, which was caught on CCTV, happened just before 12.30am on July 12 this year.

Amee Patel, prosecuting, said police had received a call from CCTV operators in Goole telling them that a man had been seen snapping windscreen-wipers off a Peugeot estate car.

Officers arrived and, after a search of Mr Noon, found two screwdrivers, two metal U-clips, a torch and a three-inch silver lock-knife.

Mr Noon told them he was "under the influence" and that he had "taken something the night before; that he was on sleepers (that were) making him do some crazy things," said Ms Patel.

He told them that he had thrown the wipers away next to a church.

When asked about the knife, he said he "didn't have a clue where it came from".

Magistrates adjourned sentencing until August 15 to allow for a pre-sentence report to be compiled.

Mr Noon, who has one previous conviction for criminal damage as well as two cautions, was released on conditional bail until that date.

The conditions are that he resides at his flat in Eastgate and keeps to a curfew from 8pm until 7am.
