Local residents turned out in force to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Goole and District Hospital.

The wet weather failed to dampen the party spirit which was created, thanks to staff and members of the public who staged and attended the successful event.

Last-minute changes had to be made, with the majority of the celebrations being moved inside due to the torrential downpours. The children's rides and games continued outside with a steady stream of people taking part between the showers.

Site manager Dorothy Hulme said: "Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our staff, the overwhelming generosity of local businesses and individuals for their donations and of course the people who attended on the day, we raised £1,800."

This money will go towards the Goole and District Hospital Endowment Fund and the Goole Splashes swimming charity.

Dorothy added: "There was a real party atmosphere throughout the afternoon, with a fantastic turnout of people who browsed the many stalls, tried their hand at the competitions and quizzes and watched the entertainment."

The crowds enjoyed performances from the Margaret Harness Dancers, Frank Ella and his young musicians, the Judo Junior Display Team and Stagedoor. There was also face painting and Boxo the Clown.

Dorothy said: "The event was all about local people coming together and helping us celebrate the anniversary of the hospital. It was absolutely fantastic that so many people turned out despite the terrible weather."

It also gave people the opportunity of seeing at first hand the types of services provided at Goole, as well as the chance of meeting the Trust Governors.
