The Goole WYSH (West Yorkshire Smoking and Health) bus returned to Goole on Wednesday to encourage more people to quit smoking.

Nearly one year on from the establishment of new stop-smoking services for the town, the bus visited the pedestrian precinct on Boothferry Road to give smokers the support they need to kick the habit.

The bus was also promoting the Whistlestop drop-in clinic in Goole, where people can visit to get support and advice when convenient.

The Goole Whistlestop has received 450 visits since August, 2007 and with the help of its flexible, friendly service 36 smokers have managed to quit.

This is in addition to the people helped at other local stop-smoking clinics in Old Goole, Snaith, Gilberdyke and South Cave.

So whether you are desperate to stop smoking, or want some information and support for after you have quit, at the Whistlestop an experienced stop-smoking specialist is there to help on a weekly basis.

Dean Nurse of Goole has been smoke-free for five months after visiting the clinic. "Goole Whistlestop was an invaluable service that helped me to finally stop smoking after numerous failed attempts previously. I found it very useful coming to the clinic to chat to the other people waiting to be seen and getting advice from the specialist," he said.

Dean found the flexibility of the drop-in clinic and the 10-minute sessions a benefit as he works shifts.

He added "I have recommended the clinic and the Stop Smoking service to all my friends and family who need support as it helped to keep me focused and achieve my ultimate goal of stopping smoking."

The clinic is held at Bartholomew Medical Centre every Tuesday between 10.30am and 12.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend and no appointment is necessary.
