The finishing touches are being put to the first four streets in Goole that received a facelift as part of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council's 'Changing Streets' project.

Work got under way this week on Alexandra Street, Kingston Street, Milton Street and Humber Street to replace old and damaged paving stones with new tarmac footpaths.

Workers will also replace existing areas of tarmac and tactile edging will be added to make it easier for disabled residents to cross the roads safely.

A total of 111 privately-owned homes on the four streets were completely transformed using government funding under the first phase of Changing Streets.

Philip Bristow, housing renewal officer for the project, said: "Now that work to the homes is complete, replacing the footpaths is the perfect finishing touch and will complete the dramatic makeover that these four streets have undergone in recent months."

As part of Advance Goole, Changing Streets is one of several projects taking place to improve the lives of people living in the area, provide them with quality housing and tackle issues which concern them most.
