Pictured enjoying a special surprise party at Windsor Court care home at the weekend is 86-year-old Pat Harvey with her family and carers.

Mrs Harvey was living at home when she was rushed into hospital one evening in November last year following a simple fall which left her with an open fracture to her arm. It then became apparent that she could no longer live alone.

Windsor Court became her new home but she later suffered further set-backs.

Just before Christmas Mrs Harvey had her arm amputated and staff at Windsor Court helped her get to and from the hospital every day, ensuring that she was always comfortable and cared for around the clock.

Daughter-in-law Sandra Harvey said: "The pressure was really taken off the rest of the family. We are so grateful to Windsor Court. It means a lot to me to say thank you to the staff - they really did save her life. Without them I don't know what would have happened. Pat loved her party and so did everyone else.

"It made a special day even more special."
