Lottery funds get museum interactive
The Goole Museum is set to display a series of innovative interactive exhibits to show the unique history of the town and port of Goole.
The exhibition is being funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund who have granted the Goole Museum £33,400 as part of their 'Your Heritage' programme.
With this exciting new development visitors to the museum will now be able to explore various themes in a permanent exhibition gallery.
There will be a series of hands-on, fun-to-use exhibits aimed at all age groups but which will be especially enjoyed by younger children and families.
A quirky 'nature trail' exploring Goole's more unexpected urban wildlife will also be available, along with a comfortable area where visitors can look through the museum's historic photo collections.
An interactive, computer-based local history database will allow visitors to search and post their own memories and images on to, building up a rich, multi-layered local history archive.
Cllr Jane Evison, the council's portfolio holder for cultural services, said: "Goole Museum has gone from strength to strength in recent years and is a much-used and valuable asset to the local community.
"The council is grateful for the continued support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, which has made possible this latest and very innovative project."
Another exciting aspect of the new project will be a series of workshops run by a freelance artist at which local children will create a timeline of Goole's history which will then be displayed in the entrance to the museum.
The project will be put out to a competitive tender shortly and the work is anticipated to be completed and ready for action by this Christmas.
Fiona Spiers, head of Heritage Lottery Fund, Yorkshire and the Humber, said: "It is fantastic to see local museums building on their success and bringing their collections to life for everyone to explore. This project will help engage with young people and families, opening up an exciting new aspect of the museum. The 'Hands on History' project will help transform the museum for future visitors and the local community."
