Man charged with father's murder after body in bag discovery
The son of Frank Garner, the man whose body lay undiscovered for three years in an East Cowick field, has been charged with his murder.
Detectives arrested Richard Garner (30), of Morley Street in Old Goole, last Thursday and after questioning him charged him with his father's murder on Saturday evening.
Mr Garner was due to appear before Beverley Magistrates' Court on Monday but the hearing was postponed until Tuesday due to his ill health.
He was taken to hospital in the early hours of Monday morning and admitted.
He appeared before Beverley Magistrates on Tuesday morning but made no plea. He was remanded in custody.
Mr Garner will appear at Hull Crown Court for a preliminary hearing next Wednesday. No application for abail was made.
The body of Frank Garner (62) was found wrapped in bin bags a mile south of East Cowick three weeks ago. Police believe the remains had been there for more than two years. He was last seen in July, 2005.
The family of Frank Garner have released the following statement as a tribute to him:
"Frank was a lovable rogue who enjoying spending time in the pub with his friends.
"He was a good local man and was well known and well respected in Goole.
"As a family we are still coming to terms with what has happened to Frank and we all love and miss him greatly.
"Although Frank could be very sociable with his friends, he was also a quiet and private man who kept himself to himself.
"It's not just his family who miss him, his friends do, too."
