Third and final chance for banned driver
A Howden man has escaped prison despite admitting a second charge of driving whilst disqualified after being banned for three years for drink/driving.
Matthew Ivan Hall (21), of The Meadows, had pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to the charge and to driving without insurance. He appeared before Selby magistrates on Thursday (October 26) for sentencing.
Mr Martin Butterworth, prosecuting, said that Hall, who was disqualified until December 2008, was seen driving a Vauxhall Astra car in Barlby, Selby, on August 13.
'Never' held a full licence
Mrs Sandra Keen, mitigating, said that one of the difficulties her client had was that he had never had a full driving licence.
She added that a more constructive way forward than immediate custody for her client would mean that he could keep his job and be able to support his child. "Prison would mean that on his release he would come out with nothing", said Mrs Keen.
Hall was sentenced to four months imprisonment suspended for one year, placed under 12 months' supervision and ordered to complete a drink-impaired driver's programme. He was also disqualified from driving for three years as from Thursday, fined £150 and ordered to pay prosecution costs of £35.
