Village school gets glowing Ofsted
Eastrington Primary School has been given a big thumbs up in a recent Ofsted report.
The school was described as a good one, with outstanding features. The report also confirmed that the school has maintained its strengths from the previous inspection.
It was said that the school has a good reputation locally, with excellent support for pupils' moral and social development, and is also very popular with parents.
The inspector, Mr Eric Jackson, also praised the head, Mr Chris Bullough.
He said: "The recently appointed headteacher has settled in well, developed good relationships with pupils, staff and parents and has set out with other senior staff and governors a clear plan for improvement."
He described pupils' learning as 'good' and sometimes outstanding due to the staff's high expectations and team work.
The school was also praised for the effective support in English given to pupils from abroad.
Mr Jackson said: "The range of local and national awards, covering healthy lifestyles, information and communication technology, physical activity and international links, testifies to the width of the good curriculum.
"The school has maintained its very good status by continually seeking to update its provision, ably supported and challenged by strong senior leaders and an active governing body."
Pupils' personal, social and emotional development was described as exceptional and it was said that they work and play together confidently.
A new staff partnership has been developed, providing a well led and managed setting that is stimulating and attractive with good opportunities for children to choose activities in or outdoors.
One recommendation was made to improve the school further and that was to allow years three to five pupils more time to complete extended pieces of writing in order to accelerate their progress and raise their achievement in English.
Mr Jackson said: "The school is well-placed to continue to offer a good and improving quality of education for its pupils."
Mr Bullough added: "The staff, pupils and governors are of course very pleased with the latest report. The school has rightly enjoyed a very good reputation over recent years, and as someone who is relatively new to the school, I am pleased that not only have we maintained the school's previous strengths, but that the inspector realised that we are constantly moving forward and not resting on our laurels.
"In particular, I feel the report highlights the exceptional level of care, guidance and support that all the staff show towards our pupils, and the way they work with families to ensure the children receive the best possible education. Everyone connected with the school should be very proud of what we have achieved."
