Police no help to informant
A Goole man who tried to give information about a high-profile drugs crackdown in the area has slammed police for 'not being interested'.
Clive Ankers, ex-director of Gotch's electrical stores, lives in the Hook Road area of Goole and rang Humberside Police to tell them he suspected criminal activity in his area following a letter he received relating to Operation Diamond.
All Goole residents received the letter from Humberside Police informing them of the numerous drugs busts in the area and appealing for any further information.
Mr Ankers called the number on the letter to tell them that he suspected criminal activity in his area.
He told the Goole Times: "I rang them to tell them and the person on the phone told me that they didn't know anything about it because they throw that much stuff at them."
"I just thought it was ridiculous. I couldn't believe it. The person said to me: 'There you are, we just don't know what is is about.'."
Mr Ankers was then put through to the operations room, who told him they would 'make a note of it'.
He said: "Nobody has been to see me about it which I thought they would do. It is as if they are not bothered.
"Whoever organised this hasn't done it very well. They sent round two police officers in uniform to our area delivering these letters. Why didn't they just go to the papers? It costs money to do these things."
Mr Ankers also rang Crimestoppers six months ago about the same suspected criminal activity and he was told to ring Goole Police Station. He asked for the number of the station and he was told to look in the yellow pages.
He said: "You do wonder why you bother reporting crimes when you are treated with such negativity."
A Humberside Police spokeswoman said: "Humberside Police value all information which is looked into and acted upon accordingly, or kept on file for future reference.
"Humberside Police endeavour to handle all calls politely and efficiently, if this was not the case in this instance and the gentlemen in question did not receive a good service then we apologise.
"Many successful drug raids have been carried out as a result of intelligence from members of the public and six people have now been charged with a total of 56 drugs offences as result of Operation Diamond."
