Sex offender failed to tell of home move
A man who was placed on the sex offenders' register for having sex with a minor has been hauled back before the courts for failing to tell police he'd moved house.
Christopher Isaac (22) appeared before Goole magistrates this week charged with failing to comply with notification requirements which made it incumbent on him to notify police if he moved home.
The court heard that Mr Isaac, who pleaded guilty to the charge, had changed address three times in the space of just four days.
Jayne Wilson, prosecuting, said Mr Isaac, who now lives at Eastgate Flats in Goole, had been on the sex offenders' register for two years following a caution for a sexual offence issued by Humberside Police in June last year.
She said one of the provisos for Mr Isaac being placed on the register was that he notified police, in person, of any change of address. This had to be done within three days of his moving home.
Ms Wilson said Mr Isaac had last been seen by police at his former home in Jefferson Street in October last year.
When he was asked why he had not notified police about a change of address, he said he was not aware he had to do so.
He was given a letter explaining to him that he must notify police if he moved house. But, on February 21, Mr Isaac moved out of Jefferson Street and stayed for two nights at a property in Richard Cooper Street, Goole, without telling police.
He then moved to Eastgate - again without notifying them.
When quizzed by police about his failure to notify them, Mr Isaac said he intended to, but he had been busy looking for a job and another place to live and it had "slipped his mind".
Mr Isaac, who has no previous convictions, was given a caution last year for having underage sex.
Barney Murphy, defending, said Mr Isaac had been living at an address in Belton, near Doncaster, before moving to Jefferson Street.
He added that Mr Isaac had been evicted from the house in Jefferson Street due to rent arrears.
Mr Murphy said not notifying police was an oversight on Mr Isaac's part.
He now planned to move to Peterborough, where his mother lives.
Magistrates gave Mr Isaac a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay £43 prosecution costs.
The bench told him to make sure he notified police about his change of address when he moves to Peterborough.
