A paedophile from Goole who sexually abused and raped a six-year-old girl has been jailed for 10 years.
David Michael Womersley (43) committed a series of offences on his victim between April and November last year.
He was sentenced at Hull Crown Court this week after admitting six counts of sexual activity with a child under 13, including rape and sexual assault.
This week the girl's mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has spoken out and said Mr Womersley had stolen her daughter's childhood.
Stolen innocence
She said: "I'm devastated. My child isn't the same. I'm not the same. There are aspects of my little girl that have been taken away.
"I worry she is going to realise what happened to her as she grows up and it is going to affect her.
"He has taken her childhood - her innocence has been taken away."
The court heard how Mr Womersley groomed the young girl over a period of seven months.
Sentencing Mr Womersley, judge Michael Mettyear, the Honorary Recorder of Hull and the East Riding, said his actions were "despicable".
In addition to his sentence, Mr Womersley has been registered as a sex offender and is prohibited from having any care or custody of a child under 16 years of age, or from working with children.
