Twenty-five years ago it was decided to split up the Yorkshire Federation of WIs into five separate federations and so East Yorkshire Federation came into being.

The Federation is organising a wide range of activities and events in 2008 to celebrate the anniversary and the 'piece de résistance' will be a flower and craft festival to be held in Howden Minster on the weekend of June 20 - 23.

On show will be flower displays depicting all aspects of WI life, as well as beautiful craft work of all kinds. There will be a preview evening on Friday, June 20 at 7.15pm with cheese and wine and a concert by the very talented and versatile choir, The Weighton Waytes.

Admission to this is by pre-bought tickets only, which are available at the Shire Hall, Howden and the Federation office on 01482 860626, at £10 each.

The Flower Festival will then be open to view on Saturday, Sunday and Monday of that weekend.

Refreshments will be available all day, provided by the local institutes.
