Sweets galore for campaign
A sweet gesture by prospective Goole MP Andrew Percy has provided the Goole Gift Campaign with more donations.
Mr Percy and fellow Tories councillors Gordon Megson and Caroline Fox, presented Kerry and Darren Smith, who run the campaign, with 60 boxes of Haribo sweets to give to British soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The sweets were donated by the Haribo company after Mr Percy and the two county councillors distributed leaflets asking local people to get behind the campaign.
Mr Percy was contacted by local resident Selen Mostyn, who works for Haribo sweets and offered to donate to the gift campaign on behalf of Haribo.
Selen delivered 60 boxes of small packets of sweets to the Tories' constituency office.
"It was much more than we ever imagined," said Mr Percy. "Kerry and Darren (Smith) are delighted at the support shown by Haribo to our troops and will now forward the sweets on with their parcels to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"I am just delighted that Haribo have joined the list of companies and organisations supporting the campaign and I know that our troops will appreciate their support. The Goole Gift Campaign is a fantastic non-political campaign with nothing but the welfare of our troops at heart. I shall certainly be doing all I can to support the campaign further."
On Tuesday Mr Percy, along with councillors Fox and Megson - who represent the Snaith, Airmyn and Marshlands ward - presented the sweets to the Goole Gift Campaign at Kerry and Darren's home in Swinefleet.
