Police are warning shoppers to be on their guard when using cash machines in Goole after the discovery of a suspicious piece of equipment on a machine on Boothferry Road.

Police were called to the Boothferry Road store of Sainsbury's on May 10 and found what was believed to be a card reader above the screen on the machine. It is unclear how long the equipment had been in place.

Anyone with information on the incident should contact Humberside Police on 0845 6060 222, quoting log 298 of May 10 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Police have issued the following advice when using cash machines:

When approaching a cash machine, look around you to see if there is anyone acting suspiciously. Feel around the machine and if there is anything which doesn't feel right or moves - leave it there - ring police and get the security guard from the supermarket. When entering a pin number, at all times cover the pad with your hand so a hidden camera cannot pick up your number.

Anyone who finds they have been affected should contact the police and their bank.
