Hundreds of drivers faced delays Tuesday morning after a crash on the A63 forced a section of the east-bound carriageway to close.

Police were called to the scene near South Cave at 5.33am after a Silver Ford Focus crashed. The car is believed to have left the carriageway and gone up an embankment before rolling over.

The vehicle was driven by a 66-year-old man and was carrying a female passenger (62).

Ambulance and Fire services were also called to the scene and the driver was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary with serious injuries although none of the injuries was thought to be life-threatening.

Following the crash the A63 was closed at the junction with the A1034 at 6.30am.

Drivers then faced further delays until later in the morning when a lane on the west-bound carriageway was blocked after a passing vehicle was involved in a minor collision at 8.05am.

Anyone with any information regarding the accident is asked to call police on 0845 6060 222 citing log number 63.
