Choral Society enjoy anniversary bash
Snaith and District Choral Society celebrated 25 years of choral singing on Saturday, May 10 with an anniversary party at Snaith Community Sports Hall.
In addition to current society members, more than 50 former members and their guests attended, with people coming from as far afield as Richmond and Cheshire. The evening included some informal singing by current and former members.
The society, then known as Snaith Choral Group, was formed in 1983 by Robert Lawrence, who remained as musical director until April, 2000. He retired after a hugely successful millennium performance of Handel's Messiah with the Halle Orchestra in Snaith Priory Church.
The society has 48 active members and always welcomes new members. It meets every Thursday during term time from 7pm to 9pm at Wesley Place, Snaith. In addition to the main concert in the spring (recent performances have included Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man, Faure's Requiem and Mendelssohn's Elijah), the society holds an informal summer concert of lighter music and two December concerts of Christmas music.
The next concert will take place in Snaith Priory Church on Thursday, July 10.
