Town goes green with completion of new £6 million recycling plant
Goole is set to 'Go Green' with the completion of a £6 million recycling plant.
Waste management specialists Mytum & Selby have invested the money and created the site which will been used to provide a major recycling facility for local councils and businesses.
The development has also created up to 50 jobs in the area.
The new fully integrated recycling centre will help ensure that around 95 per cent of all council and commercial waste treated will be able to be re-used. The centre itself, which is situated at the former Bristow's landfill site on Jerry Lane, alongside the Dutch River, was built using recycled materials.
Steve Carrie, managing director at Mytum and Selby Recycling, said: "We have dismantled the old landfill to create a dedicated recycling plant for Goole and District.
"This will enable local council to meet stringent Government targets on reducing landfill and achieve recycling targets."
The site is also set to be used for visits from local schools so pupils can learn about environmental responsibility and recycling.
Environmental technology specialists from the University of Hull helped assist the family-run company when building the recycling centre.
Dr David Calvert, commercial manager at the Environmental Technologies Centre of Industrial Collaboration said: "The Government has set out recycling targets for each county to reach by 2015 and this has put pressure on district and parish councils.
"The Bristow's site will help Goole reach these targets and put it at the forefront of waste recycling for providing a greener and cleaner society."
