A Swinefleet man has admitted unlawfully kidnapping a 56-year-old man in Goole and has been remanded in prison.

29-year-old Craig Chappell of Kings Causeway in Swinefleet pleaded guilty to the single charge of kidnapping Paul Lilley holding him against his will on May 2 when he made his first Crown Court appearance on Monday, May 12.

Mr Chappell was arrested following a Humberside Police investigation into allegations that a knife was pulled out and Mr Lilley was asked to hand over his cashpoint card and pin number before being put in the boot of a car.

Mr Chappell, who is in custody, wore a blue hooped jumper and jeans.

He confirmed his name and spoke only to confirm his plea of guilty. He stared at the public gallery and judge during the 15-minute hearing.

Crown barrister Andrew Wilson did not reveal details of the case, or how or where Mr Lilley was held, but Mr Chappell's plea led to him being remanded in custody.

His barrister Ernest Lidster made no application for bail. The judge agreed reports on his background including likely risk of re-offending should be compiled before he Mr Chappell is eventually sentenced.

Christopher McEwan (19), of High Street, Swinefleet, appeared side-by-side with Mr Chappell. He, too, was wearing a hooded light-blue top and jeans. He was not asked to enter a plea to the charge which is normal at this stage.

Defence barrister Mark Bury asked for time for the Crown to review whether or not to prosecute Mr McEwan following Mr Chappell's guilty plea.

Judge Michael Michael Mettyear remanded both men in custody and told Mr Chappell to stand as he said: "Someone from the probation service will come and see you."

He agreed a date for the plea and directions hearing for Mr McEwan should be set for July 7.
