Warehouse visit for politicians

Goole MP Ian Cawsey visited the new Tesco Distribution Centre in Goole on Friday. He was joined by leader of East Riding Council, Stephen Parnaby and depot manager, John Higgins.
Mr Cawsey told the Goole Times: "I was very keen to see the distribution centre in operation and to see the kind of jobs that people are employed to do.
"I was also pleased that the visit was with Cllr Steve Parnaby as the council has played a major role in getting Capitol Park up and running so it was a chance for Steve to see that those efforts have been very worthwhile.
"This was my first visit inside the premises and it is only when you are in the centre that you begin to realise the sheer size and scale of the operation.
"The floorspace is enormous and it's all a bit futuristic as workers glide by on electric buggies compiling orders and dealing with incoming stock.
"I learned that there are now about 650 people working on the site and we got to speak to several who took us through the job that they do.
"The logistics of it all are staggering and the way it is all pulled together so that transport in and out is maximised and stock is handled as efficiently as possible is remarkable to watch.
"It is really a huge team effort and I was grateful to John Higgins, the manager of the centre, for allowing us to visit and for all his time in showing us around and explaining all that goes on.
"There is great interest from other companies about coming to our area and locating their business at Capitol Park.
"We have a great site on the edge of the town, next to the motorway, with rail and a port. I know all of this was key to both Tesco and Guardian Glass coming to the area and it remains a great selling point to other companies."
