Three Vermuyden School pupils have been handed Lifestyle Awards for their work in the community.

Lauren Worthington, Rebecca Gardener and Jordan Courtney Winter were presented with their awards by police community support officers Beverley Doy and Natalie Beryl at the Centenary Road school last week.

The youngsters earned their awards by carrying out voluntary work in the summer holidays.

They will be rewarded with either an outdoor-pursuits adventure or a trip to a theme park.

PCSOs Doy and Beryl presented them with their certificates and prize vouchers last Tuesday.

The three girls were the latest Vermuyden pupils to be presented with a Lifestyle Award.

In the past pupils have been rewarded with outward-bound excursions to Wales as well as trips to Flamingo Land and Alton Towers.

The Lifestyle Awards are a Humberside Police initiative aimed at getting children to do voluntary work and improve their environment.

To achieve a Lifestyle Award youngsters have to carry out voluntary work in the community under the supervision of adults.

As part of the project, they have to keep a diary of their work and then present this to judges before they can be considered for a prize.

Austin Straker, assistant head teacher at Vermuyden, said: "This scheme has been absolutely brilliant for our pupils.

"All credit to them for getting involved and putting so much work into it, and to their parents for supervising their efforts."
