St George's day fundraising fun
Fundraisers draped in the colours of Saint George raised hundreds for charity during a saint's-day celebration.
The charity event, which was held at The Vikings Hotel in Goole, was a riot of colour and excitement as St George flags were waved unashamedly and patriotic songs filled the air well into the night.
Guests at the Western Road venue were welcomed on arrival by two ladies on horseback who were dressed as medieval knights.
The shield-bearing riders - whose mounts were draped in red and white - handed single red roses to each female guest on arrival.
In total about 230 guests - some of the men wearing bowler hats - attended the event last Friday, April 18. They were treated to a sumptuous five-course meal and live guitar music.
At the end of the meal everyone toasted St George then took to the dance floor for a family disco.
Money was raised through ticket prices and a raffle. All proceeds went to the Goole Scouts.
On Saturday, July 5, the Mountaineering Club will host another charity fundraiser, Stars in their Eyes, at the Charter Club on Pasture Road. Tickets will go on sale soon.
For further information or anyone wishing to enter is asked to call John Morril, of the Mountaineering Club, on: 0779 01370 49.
* The Mountaineering Club would like to thank The Vikings Hotel for letting them use the pub, Arthur Storrs florists for the red roses, and Jess the guitarist for a sterling performance.
