A Snaith brass band has scooped a major prize.

South Milford Brass, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, competed in the North of England Regional Championships in Darlington on Saturday. The band were fourth section winners.

The win means South Milford will now represent the north of England at the National Brass Band Championships in September.

The band's musical director, Richard Wilton, said: "It was really fitting to have won because of it being our anniversary year. To qualify for the finals was superb."

To put the icing on the cake for South Milford, coronet player Nicky Bond won the Stan Morris Cup for his part in the band's performances, and Glenn Kilburn picked up the Ralph Bell Memorial Trophy for best euphonium player.

The band is now appealing for sponsors to help cover the cost of new uniforms for the national finals and help pay for instruments.

Anyone wishing to sponsor the band can call 01977 661344.
