Enterprising ideas!
Year eight pupils at Snaith School have been working alongside local business representatives recently to come up with products for a young enterprise competition.
Pupils were asked to design a prototype of a product using a fixed set of materials and within a cost restraint over three sessions.
They then shared their designs in a presentation on Friday and their ideas were judged by people from Connexions, Metal Markets, MFI, Young Enterprise, East Riding and the head teacher, Jean Pickerill.
The winning group was Glu, who designed a hi-tech solar-panelled watch to be used in the office. It has an earpiece so you can talk into the watch and use it as a telephone and three mini games, as well as an MP3 player. They worked with their business adviser, Malcolm Noble from Metal Markets.
He said: "I am very pleased with them - they worked as a team and got a lot of ideas together and then compromised ideas to reach a team goal."
Janet Brunby, development manager for Young Enterprise for Humber, added: "At such a young age the pupils have already demonstrated that they are all very employable. They have used teamwork to solve a number of issues including problem solving and designing products. They all coped very well."
The group will represent the school at the KC Stadium in Hull on July 1
