Plans for visiting cinema progress
Plans for a 'touring' cinema in Snaith and Cowick were given a boost this week after it was revealed that several more groups had come forward offering to provide a venue.
Cowick Primary School has already expressed an interest in showing films in its assembly hall and now the new trustees at Snaith Sports Hall have also come forward with an offer, as has a local youth group.
Campaigners say there is a possibility that they may be able to use both the primary school and the sports hall.
Councillor Frank Townshend, mayor of Snaith and Cowick, said: "Things are certainly moving on. A number of other groups have expressed an interest so we'll have to see how we go from here.
"The sports hall is keen to do it to raise funds but hopefully we'll be able to accommodate both."
Meanwhile, Snaith and Cowick Together, the local heritage and environmental group, has announced it will visit similar schemes in the East Riding - including one in Howden and another in Holme-on-Spalding Moor - which are already up and running.
The aim is to find out more about how to run the project, called the
Under the Artery Cinema scheme, public venues show films periodically and film-goers pay a discretionary fee and can choose from a film 'menu'.
The present mobile cinema project finishes at the end of April and starts again in October.
The campaigners behind the Snaith and Cowick project hope the 'touring' cinema will be in place by then.
