Funding is now available to implement the Advance Goole Neighbourhood Programme.

The funding, made available through the Safer Stronger Communities Fund (SSCF), is to be used to tackle the 'liveability' issues and improve the quality of life in targeted areas.

It aims to involve local residents in decision making by enabling communities to influence and shape local public service design and delivery.

The programme will work in partnership with a wide range of partners including the Advance Goole housing programme and Goole Renaissance.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has also recruited a temporary worker, Ros Abbott, who will kick-start the programme.

She has a wide range of experience in working in community development and capacity building through working at various places including the Community Network, the Community Development Foundation and housing associations on a local and national level.

In order to identify Goole's priorities and to benchmark any progress, a quality-of-life survey has also been undertaken this week. This has been done through door to door consultation, giving residents the opportunity to voice their opinions.

The results of the survey along with an audit of services will form a neighbourhood action plan which will address issues raised by residents. The action plan, once completed, will be launched at a community event in the near future.

Residents of all ages will be able to get involved through a variety of ways such as attending events, forums, formal and informal meetings.

For more information, contact Ros Abbott at Carlisle House on 01405 767654.
