Unpaid work for timber thief employee
A man who stole hundreds of pounds worth of timber from his own firm has been made to carry out 250 hours' unpaid work.
James Coates appeared at Goole Magistrates' Court for sentencing last Friday, February 22, after being found guilty of theft by employee at an earlier hearing.
Mr Coates (25) of Cobble Lane, Eastrington, was ordered to pay £350 prosecution costs on top of the community work.
The theft took place at Howarth Timber Engineers near Breighton Airfield on March 30 last year.
Mr Coates, who had been working as a fork-lift truck driver for the firm for just under four years, drove his Ford Tipper van into work just after 6am and loaded about £800 of timber onto his vehicle, using a fork-lift truck.
He then drove out of the site through the main gates with the timber on the back of his van.
He was followed by his operations manager Darren Stead and productions manager Robert Belton, who stopped him on the B1128 Bubwith Road.
They made him drive back to the site and unload the timber.
He was subsequently sacked and arrested by police on suspicion of theft.
