The 'Unite Community Dance Project' is back in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Thanks to a generous grant of £60,000 from the Arts Council, the project is able to run for a further two years.

Unite is looking forward to providing and extending the opportunity for a diverse range of local groups to further develop young people's skills, and understanding of community dance.

Two local groups from Goole will be taking part in the project. They are Goole Youth Centre,, who meet on Tuesdays from 5.30pm - 7.30pm, led by dance artist Mark Pearce. The other group is from Rawcliffe Youth Centre, who meet on Thursdays from 1pm to 3pm. Their dance artist is Jenny Edwards.

East Riding Youth Dance workshops are taking place at the Courtyard on Thursdays from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. These workshops are for male/female dancers, aged 14 to 18. The workshop is led by Donna Jo Frame and Lauren Taylor, both from Goole.

So, if you like to dance, go along. The chosen groups will then sign up, allowing co-ordinators and artists to build and sustain positive working relationships throughout the project.

Your group must be based within the East Riding of Yorkshire and have a responsible group leader. The project will also provide an opportunity to form a group made up of professional dancers and an adult beginners group to work with an invited choreographer to further their creative performance skills.

During the project, the groups involved will have the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills.

The following highlight the main events and activities that the groups will experience: Working with professional dance artists, performing as part of community dance events, devising and delivering creative workshops, ongoing training opportunities for group leaders, touring experience, and working in partnership with other community groups.

This term involves both the youth centres of Goole and Rawcliffe devising their own workshops to deliver to another group also taking part in the project.

The groups will be delivering their workshop to each others at The Courtyard in Goole on Sunday, November 19. The Arts Development Team of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council will work in partnership with Dance Matters to deliver the project. .
