Playgroup score good grades in Ofsted report
Children at Howden Playgroup are happy and safe, according to a recent Ofsted report.
The report graded the playgroup as 'good' in all aspects, stating that the children are cared for in a clean, well-maintained environment that is warm and welcoming.
Children are fully involved in a wide range of activities that they enjoy and resources are attractively set out to stimulate children's interest in learning.
Staff are keen to be involved in children's play and use open questions to effectively promote children's thinking and imagination.
Inspector Duncan Gill said: "The environment is warm and welcoming, with displays of children's work and photos on the wall."
"There is a good range of toys and equipment available for the children which is well maintained and provides good challenges for them."
The children's independence is well promoted through a variety of opportunities and they are fully involved in a wide range of activities, which develop their mathematical thinking, imagination, language and creative development.
Mr Gill added: "The quality of teaching and learning is good. Children are keen to share experiences with staff and other children and begin to communicate confidently and clearly, talking activities through and reflecting on what is happening."
The children are said to be highly valued as individuals, also developing a positive attitude to others and developing a good understanding about the wider world and community through celebrating festivals. The children also have a good range or resources which show positive images of culture, ethnicity, gender and disability.
The children are given lots of praise and encouragement and learn to share, take turns and begin to accept the needs of others.
Mr Gill pointed out: "The environment is well organised, staff know their roles and responsibilities and effectively implement routines to give children a broad range of experiences."
