Couple set to appeal
A husband and wife are appealing against the East Riding council's decision to reject their bid to build two houses on their land.
Iain and Patricia Kinmond want to build two dormer bungalows at the front of their house in Snaith.
Their planning application was turned down by the council on the grounds that it would have impinged on a line of protected horse chestnut trees and invaded the privacy of surrounding properties.
Mr and Mrs Kinmond claim the trees were not protected when they submitted their application.
Mr Kinmond, of Mount Pleasant, Pontefract Road, said: "These are very good-sized plots and very private. They are only single-storey houses with a dormer for family housing."
Mr and Mrs Kinmond have put their own house on the market. The couple want to build the houses in an old paddock where Mrs Kinmond's horse used to exercise before it died. The couple say the land is now redundant and ripe for development.
"To put two houses on that land will be a massive improvement compared to how it is now," said Mr Kinmond.
Mr and Mrs Kinmond, who live with their foster son, lodged an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate on February 8 this year. A date for the decision has not yet been fixed.
