Village Post Office service is secured
Reedness Post Office is to offer more services for its customers, despite rumours circulating that it is to close.
The Post Office has announced that under their outreach arrangement the Post Office will open two days a week (Monday and Thursday) between 9am and noon and will run from the village shop. Because it will be under the supervision of the Goole Post Office, subpostmaster Sharon Hart will now be able to offer services not currently available at Reedness, such as road tax and foreign currency.
Sharon has also offered to open the branch for more than the contracted six hours a week if this can be organised with the Post Office. Goole MP Ian Cawsey has contacted the Post Office management to urge them to assist with this request.
He said: "I was keen to meet Sharon to talk to her about the service she wants to offer to local villagers. This deal brings in new services to Reedness which hopefully will increase the numbers using the Post Office and I have spoken to the regional manager about assisting her with her plans to open for more hours.
"Both Sharon and I have spoken to local people who had just assumed that the Reedness branch was closing so we wanted to get the message out that it stays open, stays in the local shop, offers more services and with a bit of co-operation from the Post Office may be open for more hours.
"I was really impressed with Sharon and her commitment to offering a service to local people. I hope this announcement ends the rumours of closure and that Reedness Post Office will have an important continuing role in delivering services to local people."
