Nearly £2,000 has been given to the favourite charity of a much-loved fundraiser.

Bryan, husband of the late Olive Hunt, MBE, and Hetty Walker, from Olive's shop, handed over £1,700 to Dave Robson, of Humber Rescue recently.

The money was raised over the last nine months, through a tombola, raffle and sales at Olive's shop.

It has been given to Humber Rescue because that was Olive's favourite charity.

Mr Hunt said his wife handed over the first donation nearly 20 years ago, when the charity was starting out.

"There's a boat club at the marina, and Olive started doing auctions down there," he said. "She amassed an amount of money and wanted to donate it to a good cause."

The good cause was Humber Rescue, and as Olive increased her fundraising to sales outside her house and finally the Edinburgh Street shop, Bryan estimates she raised more than £30,000 for the charity. Many other charities also benefited. Sadly, Olive lost her battle with cancer in May 2006.

Humber Rescue, which provides a fast-response rescue boat on the rivers of the Humber Estuary, named a boat after Olive ten years ago, in recognition of her fundraising efforts.

Hetty and Bryan would like to thank everyone who donated items to sell and supported the raffle and tombola.
