The Scout Headquarters off Dunhill Road in Goole has got off to a fantastic start in the New Year after securing a contract to hold a popular weekly weight-loss meeting there.

Weight Watchers meetings, hosted by Martin Crossland - who is also strategic development manager at The Hinge Centre in Carlisle Street - will take place at the Scouts Headquarters each Thursday evening at 6pm.

Martin has been looking for some time for a venue which would better serve his members and allow him to develop the success of his meeting.

The latest move is also beneficial to those at the Scouts Headquarters, who have been looking at ways in which they can use their premises to benefit the local community.

"We are so pleased to have been able to secure this successful weight loss meeting at our venue," said Becky Smith, chair of the Scouts Headquarters.

"We have been looking at ways in which we could use the venue in order to benefit the local community and this is a great start.

"With obesity and health issues being the main focus of news today and the importance of developing a healthy eating approach, we take pride in knowing that we can do our own bit to assist this process."

Martin Crossland added: "I am extremely pleased to be working directly with the Scouts headquarters.

"In my capacity as manager at the Hinge Centre and my belief that organisations such as the Scouts headquarters should look at other ways in which to use and promote its facilities, I will be working directly with them to see how we can begin to develop partnership working.

"The services provided by them would directly benefit the young people accessing our centre and by working together, we can break down the barriers of social exclusion so that all young people can benefit and develop a better future for them."
