An increase of 4.9 per cent in council tax has been agreed by the East Riding cabinet.

Councillors met last Wednesday to discuss a proposal to add £54 to Band D bills.

The budget includes a 1.1 per cent rise to pay for "key risks", such as flooding, an 8.7 per cent increase in the amount spent of adult services.

More money will also be put into childcare services, the youth service and cleaning out gullies.

Individual town and parish council precepts are as follows: Airmyn - £16,635 (£53.41); Asselby - £4,000 (£27.81 per Band D property); Barmby on the Marsh - £2,500 (£17.08); Blacktoft - £4,500 (£39.38); Broomfleet - £2,600 (£24.95); Bubwith - £8,000 (£16.65); Eastrington - £22,300 (£56.49); Ellerton and Aughton - £3,250 (£20.79); Gilberdyke - £63,350 (£57.84); Goole - £825,500 (£149.72); Goole Fields - £800 (£21.39); Holme upon Spalding Moor - £25,000 (£22.64); Hook - £1,500 (£32.36); Howden - £104,000 (£72.39); Kilpin - £3,120 (£22.79); Laxton - £5,000 (£40.91); Market Weighton - £125,027 (£58.14); Newport - £30,000 (£59.74); North and South Cliffe - £950 (£24); North Cave - £20,000 (£31.47); Pollington - £7,000 (£20.23); Rawcliffe - £35,000 (£46.69); Reedness - £1,000 (£8.11); Snaith and Cowick - £68,500 (£55.46); South Cave - £99,708 (£60.43); Spaldington - £4,000 (£56.90; Swinefleet - £7,000 (£26.40); Twin Rivers - £5,000 (£35.88); Wressle - £3,200 (£28.07).

The cabinet, who met at County Hall last Wednesday morning, also agreed to put parking charges up to £1, instead of 70p.

The budget will go before the full council next Thursday.
