Grant boost
Members of a day centre for the disabled in Thorne are getting ready for a group outing, thanks to a generous grant from the Co-operative Community Fund.
The Parents, Staff and Friends Association of Thorne Social Education Centre recently received a grant for £500, and is set to use it to take its day centre users on a trip to Flamingo Land in North Yorkshire this spring.
"We are very grateful for this Co-operative grant," said treasurer Ian Fraser.
"Most of our service users live in sheltered accommodation and this outing will enable them to enjoy a day out away from the centre."
Joan Keysell, The Co-operative's regional secretary, added: "The Community Fund can make a real and lasting contribution to local communities and we are really pleased to help fund this day trip for disabled people in Thorne.
"Many community groups share our co-operative values and could benefit from an award, and we would certainly welcome their applications."
Application forms in Co-operative Group stores throughout the region.
