Well, we had a scattering of snow on January 3, but it soon disappeared, and now it seems that the weather doesn't know what it is doing - one day it is cold and icy, and the next day it is dull, muggy and rainy.

I have even heard of some places with daffodils in flower! However, I have been looking round my garden and I do have a couple of clumps of daffs that are coming through, then there are all my snowdrops peaking through, and it won't be long before they are in flower.

It will be good to see some flowers in the garden again.

It is starting to be noticeable how the nights are drawing out, and one can't help thinking about the spring which is on its way.

The birds notice it more than we do and they are starting to find their voices again and pretty soon they will be courting in earnest.

My family thought that one of the things on my Christmas list was rather strange, but with the request the second year in a row they realised I was really serious, so this year I got what I really wanted - a water butt.

With the rain we have had the last week, it is starting to fill up, and it will certainly come in very useful for watering the plants in my greenhouse during the dry summer months.

Hopefully, we won't get another wet summer like the one we had last year.
