Nationalities of children revealed
More details have been published about the children of migrant workers in Goole's schools.
The statistics showing different nationalities represented in schools have been published ahead of an East Riding overview and scrutiny meeting taking place today.
As at October 19, the nationalities were as follows:
Vermuyden School: 17 Polish, five Latvian, one Russian, two Portuguese; Boothferry Primary School: 21 Polish, four Latvian, four Portuguese; St Joseph's School: six Polish, one Russian; Parkside Primary School: two Polish; Kingsway Primary School: three Polish, four Russian, two Portuguese; Swinefleet Primary School: two Croatian.
The data has been gathered as part of efforts to encourage migrant workers into local communities, which includes supporting schools with children of migrant workers.
This month, the Minority Ethnic and Traveller Attainment Service (METAS) is due to start work in the Goole area on an analysis of in-school support needs with head teachers.
Providing library books in foreign languages has been identified as another way of encouraging integration. Goole has the largest collection of foreign book material.
