A-level scores rank highly, too
Vermuyden School has been placed in the top 25 per cent in the national school league tables.
'A' level performance tables published last Thursday showed the Goole school scored an average of 745.8 points per candidate, taking into account equivalent qualifications. The national benchmark is 731 points.
The results placed them tenth in the East Riding, out of 21 schools.
Howden Technology College, the other school in the Goole Times area with A level results, scored 457 points, putting them 21st in the East Riding.
In the East Riding generally, schools maintained the average points score per pupil following several years of improvement.
The East Riding's head of improvement and learning, Mike Furbank, said: "There have been some real successes for individual students and schools in 2007, but the rate of improvement has slowed and our national ranking has declined, partly due to under-funding.
"However, I am optimistic that with the 14-19 developments that are taking shape, and the positive collaboration of schools and colleges across the East Riding, we will have an improved curriculum offer for young people that matches their aspirations.
"Furthermore, with students coming through with the best ever GCSE results, we will see a change in performance in our sixth forms."
